The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at MetroHealth Medical Center is excited to offer an opportunity for an academic orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon. The practice cares for traumatic and degenerative conditions from microvascular problems to shoulder arthroplasty. The Hand and Upper Extremity Service is a combined orthopaedic and plastic surgery effort with primary teaching responsibilities for the Case Western Reserve University Departments of Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery. https://gme.metrohealth.org/ https://gme.metrohealth.org/ We are also a primary partner with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation orthopaedic surgery residency program and the highly competitive Cleveland Combined Hand Fellowship which offers four fellowship positions per year. There are opportunities to participate in NIH, DOD, VA, and DARPA funded research programs. The department enjoys close collaborative relationships with multiple other departments including Plastic Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Neurosurgery and PM&R. Our Hand and Upper Extremity division is extremely productive both clinically and academically. Faculty have special interests in peripheral nerve/spinal cord injury and management of upper extremity trauma. The section is well supported by a nurse coordinator, dedicated clinical nurse and four physician assistants. The opportunity will include dedicated support from one of our physician assistants.

Applicants must be board certified or eligible and have completed an ACGME accredited Hand Fellowship by the time of employment. Faculty academic rank at CWRU will be commensurate with academic experience, research, and teaching activities. The institution offers competitive salary and benefit packages dependent upon rank and position.

MetroHealth Medical Center is the oldest medical system in northeastern Ohio serving its population for over 180 years with the primary mission of serving all those in need of care. In addition to a strong public health emphasis, we have been a Level 1 Trauma center for over 35 years and the only burn center in our area. We are a primary affiliate and teaching hospital for Case Western Reserve Medical School and all faculty have appointments within the school. The main campus is ideally located on the near west side of Cleveland close to the downtown district and many desirable communities. The campus has been undergoing a major transformation and a new state of the art hospital will open in October 2022 with a new outpatient facility opening the following year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBilyfpvdH8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBilyfpvdH8.
