"It was great to end a long stretch of social isolation with a trip to Carlsbad, CA! I was able to connect with old colleagues, meet new ones, and exchange ideas. My goals for the annual meeting were to advance my understanding of diseases of the hand, learn the nuances of the most up to date treatments employed, identify gaps in outcomes for current treatments, and identify areas in hand surgery where further innovation is needed. Through a conference filled with wonderful speakers, instructional courses, and industry-sponsored events, I was able to achieve these goals. I look forward to bringing all that I learned home to benefit the patients in my practice."
- Scott Loewenstein, MD
"My time at the 2022 AAHS Annual Meeting was a truly awesome experience. This meeting was the first national society conference I have attended, and it did not disappoint. The opportunity to meet leaders in the field of hand surgery, learn from some of the most experienced practitioners from across the world, and participate in hands-on educational activities made the conference second to none."
- Stewart S. Dalton, MD
"As a first-year orthopedic surgery resident, being able to attend this meeting and immerse myself in the world of hand surgery at such an early point in my career has been invaluable. I had the wonderful experience of my first podium presentation and was able to share my research with my hand surgery mentors and colleagues. In addition, I was able to engage in numerous educational instructional courses and panels and learn from leaders in their respective fields. I left the meeting inspired to continue working on research ideas and further contribute to this wonderful field. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity and cannot thank the AAHS enough for the support. Hopefully one day I will be in the position to give back and provide this same opportunity to young residents currently in my shoes."
- Meera Gill, DO
"Now at the halfway point into my final year of formal clinical training, the opportunity to attend the 2022 AAHS meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on how privileged I have been to be able to train with and learn from those at the pinnacle of the subspecialty. Some of the most energizing moments in my professional life have come from attending regional and national meetings to hear about the newest ideas, concepts, and advancements in the field."
- Irene Pien, MD
"This travel scholarship allowed me to attend my first in-person AAHS meeting and get a glimpse into what it may be like as an attendee of future meetings. I had a phenomenal time at the conference from the array of lectures from so many notable surgeons to the scientific sessions. In addition, I am extremely grateful to have made new connections as well as catching up with several of my peers at the social events. As a current candidate member, attending the conference gave me a further glimpse into the resources available as I go into my fellowship and years as a young attending. I am incredibly appreciative for being chosen to receive one of the travel scholarships this year and the experience that it allowed me."
